Breast Cancer Examination
A free breast cancer examination (primary) is provided every year from September 1 to November 30.
Any woman who is a resident of Hachioji and who is 31 or older may receive an examination simply by filling out name, address, birth date and the like on a breast cancer examination registration form.
The list of medical institutions which provide breast cancer examination services is printed in "Koho Hachioji", an official city magazine. For further information, please contact Medical Action Department in the Hachioji government (Tel: 66-0152).
If an abnormal condition is found, the medical institution which conducted the breast cancer examination will refer the patient to another medical institution for a secondary examination (close examination). Every year about 12,000 women receive breast cancer examinations, with about 450 with questionable results, with 25 suspected of having breast cancer and with about half that many actually being diagnosed as having cancer.
Each year, only slightly more than 10% of those qualified actually avail themselves of the free breast cancer examination offered by the city. Let's take advantage of the free examinations and detect breast cancer as quickly as possible.
